Pour your coffee. Make it an especially aromatic blend this morning. On Tuesday, April 3rd tune to AM1490WGCH when Michele will be sitting down with Ruth Sutcliffe. Ruth is the founder of The Scent Guru Group, LLC and the creator of Essential Awakenings Smell and Memory Kit.
Sutcliffe is a 30-year veteran of the flavor and fragrance industry. She has worked creating fragrances for all different types of products. Working at International Flavors & Fragrances, Sutcliffe focused on scents for household products. She also worked with the Worldwide Beauty Care division of Bristol Myers. At that point she was Senior Sensory Analyst, responsible for fragrance development for all Clairol, Matrix and Aussie brands just to name a few.
Later, Ruth went on to serve as a Senior Marketing Director and Fragrance Designer for Coty. There she focused on fragrance development for lifestyle and celebrity brands. Sutcliffe's goal has been to create fragrances that enhance lives and help brands establish strong emotional ties with consumers.
With Ruth's vast experience in the fragrance industry and her love for volunteering at local senior centers, Essential Awakenings Smell and Memory Kit was born. She says "reaching to memories through sense of smell" is much like hearing a favorite song or tasting a favorite family dish. Recall of cherished memories can be found through sense of smell! Scientific research has found the link between our sense of smell and our ability to recall past experiences to be a strong one. The most powerful in fact.
As a result of Ruth's work on Essential Awakenings, she is the recipient of the 2017 Innovation Award. This honor is awarded from Connecticut's Women's Business Development Council.
Most noteworthy is how near and dear this project is to Ruth's heart. She lost her mom to dementia-related illness and helps care for her mother-in-law who suffers from Alzheimer's. Ruth and her family live in Greenwich.
Tune in on Tuesday, April 3rd at 9:30am to AM1490WGCH!
