The Osborn hosted a gala luncheon in December to recognize the accomplishments of three area women who have made a difference in the field of caring for seniors in our communities. The "Women Who Make A Difference" event also commemorated the twentieth anniversary of Osborn Home Care. To see photos of the event, visit the The Osborn Photo Gallery.
The Osborn’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Matthew G. Anderson, presented the Miriam A. Osborn Foundress awards to Mary K. Spengler, MS, Chief Executive Officer of Hospice of Westchester; Kathy Carley-Spanier, MS, RN, Director of Community Health at Greenwich Hospital; and Janet Malang, RN, BSN, MA, retired Vice President of Sterling Park, the Independent Living community at The Osborn. “We are proud to give the Foundress Award to these extraordinary women whose work demonstrates the values embodied by our founder, Miriam A. Osborn,” said Mr. Anderson. “It was her vision to provide a place where elders could enjoy gracious retirement living. Her compassion, generosity, philanthropic spirit, and dedication to serving the needs of the aged made it possible.” The Osborn now provides a continuum of residential and health care to men and women on its 56-acre campus.
Osborn Home Care was founded in 1996 to provide seniors with the high quality care and companion services that are among the hallmarks of The Osborn’s sterling reputation. The agency provided over 170,000 hours of service in Westchester County during 2016. Osborn Home Care recently opened an office at 125 Mason Street in Greenwich, Connecticut, and is now providing homemaker companion care in Fairfield County.
Guest Speaker Author Bob Spitz
The 160 guests in attendance enjoyed a talk by noted author, Bob Spitz, who shared his experiences traveling with Julia Child in the national bestselling book, Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child. The menu, prepared by The Osborn’s Culinary Institute of Arts-trained Executive Chef, paid homage to Mrs. Child’s ground-breaking work in making French cuisine accessible to the American palate. The event took place in The Osborn’s gracious 108-year-old auditorium, festively decorated for the occasion.
The Osborn Charity Care Program
Proceeds from the luncheon and silent auction support The Osborn’s Charity Care Program. Central to the vision of Mrs. Osborn, the Charity Care Program provides care and residency on The Osborn campus for those who outlive their resources or cannot afford to pay from the outset. It also supports Osborn Home Care services for residents of The Osborn and seniors in both Westchester and Fairfield Counties who cannot afford to pay for their care.
The Osborn is a private, non-profit continuum of care retirement community located in Rye, New York. Founded in 1908, today it serves over 1,000 seniors annually in Independent, Assisted Living and Memory Care residences, along with short-term and outpatient rehabilitation, long-term Skilled Nursing care, and through Osborn Home Care.
