Most of us exercise to stay fit. We want to stay heart healthy, slim and trim. As you get older, sometimes it gets more difficult to find that get up and go. What if remaining physically active could actually keep our muscles healthy. More importantly, our immune system healthy.
There are two new studies of recreational cyclists that say just that. These two studies suggest what was previously thought about aging and exercise might need a little update. We do have control over our bodies.
Therefore, a group of British scientists decided to look into whether or not exercise has been getting enough attention for it's worth during this stage of life. It seems only 10 percent of people past the age of 65 work out regularly.
Basically what that means is what is usually expected to happen to aging bodies during the aging process is compared to those who aren't exercising. Actually, this could all change.
Moreover, the British scientists, many who are recreational athletes, made the connection between physical aging and what we consider "normal" aging to be. Gretchen Reynolds explains in NYT, "How Exercise Can Keep Aging Muscles and Immune Systems 'Young'." Therefore, to sweat or not?
